The webinar "Engaging Early Learners with Technology: Sharing Research and Best Practices" discusses the importance of integrating technology into the education of young children to promote a solid foundation for using technology to learn. Beginning at such a young age, students learn the basics of how to operate devices, how to use basic functions, and proper digital citizenship.

  • One thing I learned from this webinar was that technology skills can begin being taught without actual devices. Teaching young children how to stay on track, how to be patient, and how to troubleshot problems can lead into dealing with certain situation when using technology.
  • I also discovered that when students use technology at a young age, it supports their social-emotional growth. By using certain features, students are learning how to communicate effectively and problem solve on their own .
  • Lastly, this webinar informed me that there are four types of screen time. Passive consumption. interactive time, communication, and contact creation. Each type serves the student a different function, therefore we should stop combing them all into one category.
In the future I plan to continue to educate myself on the growing needs of young children especially when it comes to learning about technology. This webinar pointed out the importance of giving students a foundation for the basics of technology to begin their academic career. Just like we are never done teaching, we are ever done learning either.
