In the "Creating Lifelong Learners" blog, the post "What good Teaching Looks Like: Digital Research" explains why it's important to coach students on how to search topics in Google Search. What I found interesting about this post was that it pointed out some very useful information that I didn't know. The tools provided for researching on the internet are more specific and helpful than I could've imagined. Using this information in the classroom is vital to the students success in online learning.
- In this blog I discovered that Google offers a cheat sheet to searching for keywords. For example if you were researching a topic that could result in multiple categories, you can use the "-" to exclude information that isn't relevant to your research.
- When choosing a website to read, you can look for the"about this page" link to discover that page's credibility.
- Teachers should implement using keywords to search on the internet into technology lesson plans at an early age to give students the tools to do efficient research as they continue to use technology.
In my future as an educator, this information will remain extremely valuable as I help my students navigate the internet. Before technology we learned how to do research in a library which required looking for specific details. Technology has taken this technique and made it incredibly easy to find exactly what your looking for with a few clicks on a keyboard. Researching is more efficient than ever, if you know how to look.
